What is Counselling ?
Counselling is a rare opportunity to discuss what matters most to you in a space that is tailored to you: privately, ethically and safely.
It is not about “fixing” problems, or finding quick solutions. Instead, counselling is a place to remind you that whatever you’re going through, you are not alone.
However confidentiality has exceptions and limits. Counsellors have a duty to seek external support should a client, or someone close to them, be at risk of significant harm. It is our responsibility to work within UK law and to take seriously any concerns regarding activities such as terrorism, money laundering and child safeguarding. In these circumstances I am legally obliged to contact other professionals, but where possible I would discuss my concerns with you first.
Types of counselling
There are many approaches of counselling, all offering something different, depending on what works for you, you may have already heard of CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) or Psychoanalysis to name a few.
I offer ‘Person Centred Therapy’ Online
This approach harnesses my client’s natural healing process. It centres you in the work by developing and building a therapeutic relationship which supports personal growth. This can be achieved safely within an accepting, non judgemental and empathic space. There is no homework, and I do not direct my clients or give them advice. Instead, I believe that you are the expert in your own life. I work with compassion and a gentle curiosity. With the right conditions, a deeper understanding of yourself is entirely possible.
